My Name is Alex

To my mother’s dismay I dropped out of (community) college in 2008 and decided to cut hair on a whim. It was just a way to make some money while I figure out what I want to do when I grow up. Clearly, I still don’t know. Though recently I’ve been thinking I’d make a good cobbler. Anyway, I’ve had a pretty incredible journey in haircutting. I’ve been a teacher at multiple trade colleges, held jobs cutting and teaching in multiple states and countries, and now operating my own studio. Originally, I’m from South San Diego, CA. I moved to Houston, TX in 2016 following a girl. Now that girl and I are married and have three kids

When You walk into my shop I hope it feels good and nice. I did not buy a bunch of stuff to fill a space or to make it look a certain way. Everything in the shop, save for a few items, is mine and my families. The work bench I cut hair from is my writing desk, the we’ve had for many years prior to the shops opening, the books are all mine and have been read by me (all but two or three recent gifts), the collection of alcohol is my personal collection. All but a few things have been carefully chosen by me over the years, not for a shop, but because I (and/or Alena/the kids) like them.

Style is a funny word. I think what people mean when they say “style” is “favorite” or “focus”. What I mean when I say “style” is what I, consciously or unconsciously, prioritize when doing a thing. In this case, hair. My style in haircutting revolves in two things, in no particular order: 1) growing out well and 2) looking natural. I am able and happy to do all sorts of fades and haircuts to most peoples liking but i’m not for everyone. I am honest and open about my skills and limitations. I’m always up for a new challenge but I take you, your hair and your time seriously. So you can feel at ease and confident in my chair.

Thanks for taking time to read this “about me” section. If you’re new here and this sounds groovy to you then I hope I can see you at the shop for a service some day. If you’re not new here then you probably came to the site to book an appointment and stumbled upon this section. You should probably make an appointment now if you haven’t already.

This is some generic stock photo that the website design tool generated. Rest assured that, sooner or later when you least expect it, this will be replaced with something bad ass. Like a bald eagle riding a motorcycle or something.
